I remember an incident that took place about four decades ago. A man got caught for cheating a bank-branch a huge amount of Rs 50,000/- (by the then standard). His father, who was a co-accused, cooperated with the Police and spilled the beans. The entire ill-gotten money was subsequently recovered in no time. The son looked disappointed and confided: ‘Look, my Dad is so inexperienced. He made a fool of himself by telling all to the Police. He could have instead bribed himself out by spending a fraction from out of the money we made! I feel, the man’s strategy was workable.
Now, if this is the mind-set of the petty-thugs, the more sophisticated, the more educated and the more experienced amongst the white collared swindles certainly have better ideas of creating wealth by dodging the law. Cheats, swindlers and fraudsters have very bright future indeed!
